Cardiac Nats Win in Extras

(Woodbridge, VA) - Francisco Soriano delivered a walk-off, RBI double off the right field wall as the Potomac Nationals won in thrilling fashion over the Lynchburg Hillcats 7-6 in ten innings. The P-Nats trailed by as many as five runs in the game and earned their seventh walk-off win of the season.

With his first hit of the series, Soriano scored Kevin Keyes all the way from first base with his game-winning double. The run was the fifth two-out run scored by the Nationals on the night.

The game was sent to extra innings thanks to late heroics by Potomac in the ninth. Trailing 6-5 in the ninth with two outs, the Nationals strung together three consecutive singles with the final one by Jason Martinson tying the game at 6-6.

Drew Storen pitched for the fifth time in a P-Nats uniform and retired the side in order in the seventh inning. He struck out two batters and threw ten of his eleven pitches for strikes.

After being shutout last night, the Hillcats were quick to get on the scoreboard tonight with five runs in the second inning. Edward Salcedo drew a one-out walk and came into score on an RBI double by Shawn McGill to start the scoring. David Rohm followed with a single and set the stage for Matt Weaver who hit a three-run home run, his tenth of the year. Nick Ahmed drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI double to give Lynchburg a 5-0 lead.

David Freitas got the Nationals on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with an RBI double to right-center field to score Ricky Hague and make it 5-1.

Lynchburg got the run right back in the top of the fifth as Ahmed picked up his third hit of the game doubling home Mycal Jones for a 6-1 lead.

Potomac scored their second run of the night in the bottom of the fifth. Keyes doubled to start the frame and scored on a sacrifice fly by Soriano to cut the deficit to 6-2.

Three two-out runs in the sixth inning got the P-Nats back into the game. Stephen King drove in Martinson with an RBI double and Keyes homered to deep left field to bring Potomac within a run at 6-5. Keyes has homered in back-to-back games.

Adam Olbrychowski started for the P-Nats and did not make it out of the second inning lasting just one and two-thirds. He received the no decision giving up five earned runs on six hits. Dimasther Delgado was in line for the win for the Hillcats before the bullpen coughed up the lead. He threw five and a third innings allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts.

The P-Nats continue their series against the Lynchburg Hillcats tomorrow evening at 7:05 PM. Robbie Ray (3-6, 5.11) takes the mound for Potomac while Gus Schlosser (9-4, 3.45) will pitch for Lynchburg.
