
Captains defeat Shorebirds

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)--Albert Vargas won for the first time since May 16th, and the Captains gained a series-split with Delmarva with a 9-5 win at Classic Park Friday night.
Vargas (5-12) had made 15 starts since his last victory, going 0-9 over that span. On Friday, he tossed five innings allowing five hits and two runs. He left with the Captains leading 7-2.
The Captains (29-23) scored four runs in the first inning off Shorebirds starter Kyle Schmidt (3-3). Fernando Pacheco drove in the first run with an RBI single and P.J. Hiser followed with a three-run homer for a 4-0 lead.
After the Shorebirds (20-32) scored a pair in the second on a two-run single by Stu Musslewhite, the Captains pushed the lead back to 6-2 on a two-run single by Max Ramirez.
Chris Gimenez had three hits for the Captains, including an RBI double in the fourth.
The Captains went 4-4 on the homestand, and remain seven games behind the first-place Lakewood BlueClaws. The BlueClaws defeated Hagerstown 4-0 on Friday.
The Captains will embark on a four-game road trip to Lexington beginning Saturday night at 7:05. LHP Ryan Edell will start for the Captains against Lexington's Ryan McKeller.
