
Captains Clinch 2nd Half Playoff Birth

Lake County Captains News Release
(Midland, MI) - For the third time in the last five seasons, the Lake County Captains will be making an appearance in the Midwest League playoffs by virtue of their 3-1 win over the Great Lakes Loons on Wednesday night.
The Captains will host the South Bend Silver Hawks, the 1st first half wild card winner, in a best-of-three playoff series beginning on Wednesday, September 3 at 7 PM at Classic Park. Games two and three (if necessary) will take place in South Bend on Thursday and Friday, September 4 and 5.
Tickets for the September 3 game are on sale and are only $9 in advance and all tickets will be $10 on the day of the game. Fans may also pre-purchase parking in the Classic Park Gold Lot for $6 ($8 on game dates).
Great Lake scored first, in the bottom of the second inning on a solo homer from Spencer Navin, the score was 1-0.
Claudio Bautista evened the score when he blasted his 12th homer of the season to left field in the top of the fifth inning. The score was tied at 1-1. Nellie Rodriguez doubled home two runs in the sixth inning to give the Captains the 3-1 lead. The Captains won the game by the 3-1 score.
RHP Mitch Brown (8-8) started the game for the Captains and pitched six innings to earn the win. Brown allowed five hits, one earned run and one home run. Brown did not walk a batter and fanned seven. Alexis Paredes pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Trevor Frank pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 18th save of the season.
RHP Scott Barlow (6-7) got the start for the Loons. Barlow pitched five innings and allowed seven hits, three earned runs, one walk, one home run and he struck out eight. Barlow took the loss. The Loons used three relief pitchers to finish off the ballgame.
The Captains and Loons play game two of the three game series on Thursday at 7:05 PM with the Captains sending RHP Jordan Milbrath (3-12, 3.81) to the mound against LHP Luis DePaula (1-2, 6.84).
