Wick's Two-Run Homer Lifts Chiefs to 4-2 Win

PEORIA, IL- Rowan Wick blasted a two-run home run in the second inning to help send the Peoria Chiefs to a 4-2 victory over the Beloit Snappers on Wednesday night. The win gets the Chiefs to a record of 32-33 in the second half and 69-65 overall with five games remaining in the regular season.

The Chiefs opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second inning against Kyle Finnegan. Carson Kelly led off with a single to right before Wick crushed his fifth home run with the Chiefs down the right field line and onto Adams Street.

Peoria added on a run in the fourth. Wick opened the inning with a single and scored on Steve Bean's double in the right-center field gap. After a one-out walk to Richy Pedroza, Michael Schulze flew out and Vaughn Bryan grounded out to end the inning with runners at first and second.

Beloit got one run in the fifth against Arturo Reyes. BJ Boyd led off with a single and after an out, Melvin Mercedes singled. Chih-Fang Pan followed with a single to load the bases with one out. Reyes struck out Matt Chapman but gave up a single to Ryan Mathews to score Boyd for a 3-1 score. Reyes was relieved by Tyler Bray, who struck out Michael Soto to leave the bases loaded.

The Chiefs got the run back in the sixth as Wick opened with a hustle-double to right. Bean flew out to deep right to send Wick to third and Ronnierd Garcia hit a slow-roller to third scoring Wick for a 4-1 Chiefs lead.

The Snappers scored again in the seventh as Mercedes drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a ground out. Chapman followed with a single to left to plate Mercedes for a 4-2 score and end the scoring.

Reyes pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing one run on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Bray (1-1) tossed 2 1/3 innings allowing a run on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts to earn the win in relief. Jhonny Polanco tossed a perfect eighth inning with a strikeout and Kyle Barraclough pitched the ninth with a walk and a strikeout to pick up his ninth save.
