Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)--Hagerstown catcher Drew Butera hit a solo homer in the sixth inning Wednesday afternoon, accounting for the only run in a 1-0 Suns win over the Captains at Classic Park.
Three Captains pitchers combined on a two-hitter, but couldn't prevent Lake County from suffering its eighth shutout loss of the season. Four of those shutouts have come against the Suns.
Butera led off the sixth inning with a solo shot to right against Captains starter Tom Cowley. It was the only hit allowed by Cowley on the day. The homer was Butera's fourth of the year.
Cowley, who lowered his ERA to a team-best 1.79, walked none and matched his season-high with seven strikeouts.
Jeff Landing (5-10) started for the Suns and tossed six shutout innings. Landing got relief help from Eric Brown in the seventh, and Kevin Tomasiewicz, who worked the final two innings for his eighth save.
The Captains (7-7) left eight men on base in the game. P.J. Hiser had two of the Captains seven hits.
The Captains now depart for a four-game series at Delmarva beginning on Thursday night at 7:05. The team will return to Classic Park to begin an eight-game homestand on Tuesday, July 10th. For tickets, call 440-954-WINS.
