Captain Cal Wild Announced as First Beast Signed for 2015-16 Season

Brampton, ON - For the second season in a row, the Brampton Beast have announced returning forward and team captain Cal Wild as the first player of the 2015-16 Beast roster.
"I'm excited to be back!" said Wild from the 2015 Streethockey World Championships in Zug, Switzerland, where he is currently representing Team Canada. "I love Brampton, I love the community, and I love the momentum this organization is building. My ultimate goal is to win, and I don't think this is a rebuilding year. We're done the being in the 'new' phase. We're looking to make a difference."
Always a leader on the ice, Wild posted 25 points (9 goals, 16 assists) in 59 games this season, including scoring the game-winning goal in a 4-3 nail-biter over the Quad City Mallards on December 28. Known for his responsible style of play, it is often Wild's commitment to defense that has earned the Winnipeg native high praise from teammates and coaches throughout his career.
"For Cal to be a veteran player and be able to play at both ends of the rink, he's responsible defensively and can contribute offensively, it's the way I believe all our players need to play," said Beast Head Coach Colin Chaulk. "Having your captain playing the right way every night, it made it a pretty easy decision to bring him back."
But for the Winnipeg native, wearing the "C" for the Beast is about more than scoring goals and blocking shots.
This past season, Wild was the recipient of the 2014-2015 ECHL Community Service Award of the Year, as the veteran leader chose to support a number of new initiatives with his time, money and passion. Wild's charity, the Cal's Pals Foundation, continued to make a very real difference in the community, contributing to Kerry's Place Autism Services, JDRF, the Children's Wish Foundation, Wellspring Chinguacousy Cancer Support Centre, and Special Olympics Ontario, and making a difference in the lives of hundreds of fans and families in the Peel region.
This latest award came on the heels of Cal winning the Central Hockey League's "Man of the Year" honours in the Beast's inaugural season, giving the talented captain the top community-related awards in the ECHL and former CHL in back-to-back seasons.
"Cal has been our leader of the Beast on and off the ice since day one, and has never taken a shift off in Brampton since he joined the organization," said Beast President and General Manager, Cary Kaplan. "There was no one else that we wanted more to be out first player signed for the 2015-2016 season. The combination of Head Coach Colin Chaulk and Cal Wild represents powerful leadership."
As always, catch Wild this summer out in the community with the Brampton Beast supporting various causes and events and promoting the team. The organization looks forward to continuing to connect with their growing fan-base and having a successful third year.
