Madison Capitols News Release
The Madison Capitols improve to 17-15-2 after tonight's 5-2 wire-to-wire victory over the U17s of Team USA. With the road triumph, Madison skated to its third consecutive victory and fourth straight over the U17s.
Caps forward Barrett Brooks netted the games first goal at 9:48 of the 1st period after he fired home a gorgeous behind the back pass from UMass commit, Nathan Lewis. Winger Jack Musa would make it 2-0 when a rebound dropped right in front of him and the BU commit roofed it with 1:58 left in the opening period.
Tyler Haskins extended the Caps lead to 3-0 at 2:28 of the 2nd period when he got a piece of defenseman Luke Mittelstadt's shot on the power play. Blueliner Ben Dexheimer was credited with the secondary assist on the Capitols lone power play goal of the evening.
Madison and Team USA traded 2nd period goals and would head into the final 20 minutes with the Capitols leading, 3-1.
The Caps really put the heat on the U17s when forward Reid Pabich made it 4-1 with 12:08 remaining in regulation. Defenseman Michael Quinn walked a puck deep into the attacking zone, put a spin cycle on and made a great pass to a wide open Pabich in front. Captain Casey Severo would put the nail in the coffin with his empty net goal with 30 seconds left to play.
Madison's newly acquired netminder Mason Kucenski made his first start for the Capitols this evening. He shut the door on 21 of the 23 shots he faced tonight.
The Capitols will closeout the weekend against the U18s tomorrow night at USA Hockey Arena. Puck drop slated for 7:05 p.m. ET.
