Madison Capitols News Release

The Madison Capitols jumped out to an early lead over the Muskegon Lumberjacks and never looked back in tonight's 7-3 victory.

Reid Pabich got the Capitols going quickly this evening when he received a beautiful saucer pass from Jack Horbach and buried a breakaway goal just 55 seconds into the game. A quick answer from the Lumberjacks would even things up at one apiece but that wouldn't last long. Michael Quinn, the former Lumberjack, netted his first goal of the season a little over five minutes later when his shot from the point caught a deflection out front and found the back of the net.

Leading 4-1 in the 2nd period, Caps captain Casey Severo blasted home a one-timer from the slot on the power play for his first goal of the season. Madison would take a comfortable 6-2 lead into the second intermission after Reid Pabich scored his second of the game 2:26 left in the middle frame.

At the 13:33 mark of the 3rd period, Ben Dexheimer scored his second goal of the season and the Capitols third power play goal of the night. Madison went a solid 50 percent (3-for-6) on the power play while killing off all three of their penalty kill situations.

"That game was a great effort by our players. They accomplished their mission of winning. I am proud of their energy, confidence, and focus for the whole 60 minutes," Caps head coach Tom Upton said.

The Capitols had EIGHT players with multi-point games tonight. Ben Dexheimer (1G, 3A), Michael Quinn (1G, 1A), Reid Pabich (2G), Jack Musa (2A), Casey Severo (1G, 1A), Jack Horbach (2A), Luke Mittelstadt (1G, 1A) and Nick DeSantis (1G, 2A).

Madison entered the evening with five starters not being able to go due to injury but that didn't much matter to them.

"We don't focus on injuries or make excuses. We have a next man up mentality, and our teams depth showed tonight," Upton said.

The Caps and Lumberjacks will do it all over again tomorrow night for the series finale. Puck drop slated for 7:10 p.m. ET.
