Madison Capitols News Release
Madison hosted the first of a three-game weekend for the Capitols. The game on Friday was the only of the three at home on the weekend, so if the Caps wanted to impress in front of the home faithful, they would have to do it Friday evening.
The game marked the start of the Tom Gilbert era for Madison after being named Interim Head Coach on Monday. Gilbert and co. on the bench for the Capitols were probably looking for a better start to their first game in charge. Cedar Rapids found the back of the net 59 seconds into period number one to earn a 1-0 lead. They would add another before the Capitols answered with a goal from Brendan Lamb. Madison would concede a third goal in the period to go to the break down 3-1.
The Caps came out firing in the second period. Goals from Kuzma and Flynn had the Capitols all square with Cedar Rapids just past the half way point of the second. Cedar Rapids answered with a pair of goals of their own to keep the two-goal lead at intermission number two.
Cedar Rapids added a pair in the third and came away with a 7-3 victory. Madison falls to 11-35-2-1 on the season. The Capitols hit the road tomorrow to face off against the RoughRiders again. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05.
