Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
OMAHA, NEB. - The Sioux Falls Stampede Hockey Club fell to the Omaha Lancers, 3-2, in their lone game for the weekend this Friday night. Goals from Chris Pelosi and Isaac Gordon were not enough for the Herd to power back from the deficit for the win.
The Lancers were able to get on the board first during the initial 20 minutes of play. A Lancers powerplay, caused by a hooking call on Stampede defenseman Evan Murr, was enough to let Justin Stupka find the back of Jackson Irving's net to open the scoring. The Herd was able to tie the game back up at one goal each less than one minute later. Chris Pelosi, with assists to Connor Pelc and Evan Murr, found the net with four minutes and 30 seconds left in the period.
The Stampede fell by a goal in the second frame when Griffin Jurecki was the only skater to find twine. Jurecki's goal marked the second positive powerplay for the Lancers, with the Herd only killing one penalty off.
Where the Stampede's penalty-kill unit struggled, it proved to be a positive for the Lancers as they capitalized on another powerplay with 6:53 expired from the third period clock. The Stampede were battling after a mid-period goal by Alex Rybakov was called off, keeping the score at 3-1 in favor of Omaha. Isaac Gordon reacted with a goal of his own with just over five minutes in the period, with assists to Jaksen Panzer and Kaz Sobieski. With the called-off goal, the Herd was unable to pull the win out in Omaha.
Jackson Irving found himself starting between the pipes for the Stampede. He was able to stop 32 of 35 shots on his net, marking a .914 save percentage. Irving moves to 3-10-4 this season with a .888 overall save percentage and 3.92 goals-against average.
The Herd has the remainder of the weekend off, coming back to the Denny Sanford Premier Center on March 25th for Fan Appreciation Night against the Des Moines Buccaneers and the 26th back against Omaha. Tickets for both games are on sale through the Stampede office, Denny Sanford Premier Center box office, or on Ticketmaster.
