Inland Empire 66ers News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Ports continued to slug baseballs all over Banner Island Ballpark Sunday night and Anthony Capra pitched a seven-inning gem as Stockton rolled to an 8-1 win to finish a series sweep of the 66ers.
Stockton, which clubbed three homers Saturday night, matched the feat with three more tonight.
Tim Sexton (7-11) allowed three long balls for the first time this season while being charged with 8 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and 1 walk with 1 strikeout in 5.0 innings.
Capra (2-0) set a career-high with 10 strikeouts and struck out the side in the fourth and the seventh. The lefty retired 13 in a row during one stretch and limited the 66ers to 2 hits and 1 walk in 7.0 innings for the win.
After Sexton allowed a run in the first, the Ports (52-62) rallied with two outs in the fourth. With a run already in and two runners on, Shane Keough launched a three-run shot to right field for his second homer of the year. The first five runs Sexton allowed came with two outs.
In the fifth, Yusuf Carter hit a two-run round-tripper to left, the catcher's second home run in as many nights. Two batters later, Frank Martinez drilled an offering from Sexton over the right field wall to make it 8-0. Martinez hit two home runs last night to start a three-homer series after he had just two homers in his first 90 games this year.
The 66ers (50-64) ended the shutout with a run in the ninth as Elian Herrera singles, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Scott Van Slyke's ground out.
Carter went 3-for-3 with a home run, double, 2 RBIs and 2 runs to lead the Stockton attack.
The 66ers continue the road trip Monday in Modesto at 7:05 p.m. RHP Justin Miller (0-1, 11.25) takes the ball for Inland Empire while the Nuts send LHP Christian Friedrich (2-0, 1.50) to the hill. Coverage on the 66ers flagship KCAA 1050AM begins at 6:55 p.m. Inland Empire returns home Friday, August 14 to open a six-game homestand with the High Desert Mavericks. Tickets to future Sixers games can be purchased online at www.66ers.com or at the 66ers box office at 280 South E Street in San Bernardino. For more information, call 909-888-9922.
