
JetHawks Lose See-Saw Battle, Get Swept by Blaze

(BAKERSFIELD, CA) - The JetHawks bats revived for their highest run total in four games, but their bullpen allowed five runs in the eighth inning as the Bakersfield Blaze completed a sweep of the JetHawks, beating them 9-6 Sunday night. Lancaster is just 2-13 playing at Northern Division stadiums this season.
The lead changed hands several times with both teams leading twice. Bakersfield took an early lead, but Lancaster pulled in front in the fourth inning on two-run double by Brandon Barnes and a RBI single by newcomer Andy Simunic, playing his first game with the JetHawks.
After the Blaze tied the game in the home half of the fourth, the JetHawks waited until the sixth inning before pulling in front again. Back-to-back doubles by Matt Weston and Marcos Cabral put Lancaster ahead 4-3. Lancaster starter Chris Salamida turned in a solid outing, working into the seventh inning for the second straight time. However, he left with the game tied after a allowing a home run in the seventh inning.
The bullpens took over for both teams and both struggled. The Lancaster tandem of Fernando Abad and Jordan Powell combined to allow five runs in the eighth inning. The JetHawks made a valiant rally in the ninth inning, loading the bases and getting a RBI single from Ebert Rosario. But Blaze reliever Adalberto Flores struck out the final two batters to close the game.
The JetHawks will take a day off before starting a six-game homestand Tuesday night against Lake Elsinore. Shane Wolf (4-5) will pitch for Lancaster against Cesar Ramos (1-0) of the Storm. The game will begin at 7:00 and will be broadcast live on radio at Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com with the Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
