Capitols to Welcome New Players Through USHL Draft
May 2, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols will take part in the 2014 USHL Draft on Monday and Tuesday, May 5-6. The draft will consist of two "Phases."
Phase 1 consists of eight rounds as USHL teams will select players from the 1998 birth year. This phase often allows teams to select players who will develop at lower levels of hockey in preparation for USHL play in future seasons.
In Phase 2, USHL teams will select players from multiple birth years as they look to fill their protected lists with players who will compete for roster spots for the 2014-15 season. The draft continues until all USHL teams have secured 45 players on their Initial Protected List. That list includes affiliate players from the 2013-14 season, players selected in Phase 1, and players signed to a tender.
The Capitols, along with the expansion Bloomington Thunder, will select after the non-playoff teams in each round. Both Madison and Bloomington will also have two additional picks at the end of the eighth and final round of Phase 1.
Picks in Phase 1 will be announced on a live broadcast at www.ushl.com . The USHL Draft Show is being provided for free via FASTHockey, the USHL's exclusive digital video network and will begin at 5 PM.
Capitols fans can follow all developments on the team's Twitter (@MadCapsHockey) and on Facebook.
In addition, the Capitols will hold media availability Tuesday afternoon at the conclusion of the draft inside the Alliant Energy Center.
Madison will open its inaugural season inside the Alliant Energy Center this October.
