The Indiana Ice are going back!

May 2, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

Rolling into Dubuque, IA, Indy had a 2-0 advantage over the host Dubuque Fighting Saints in the best-of-five series. The defending Clark Cup champions weren't going to make it an easy road, but when the final buzzer sounded, the Ice ruled the East.

After 60 minutes of physical hockey, the center-hung scoreboard told the whole story. Ice win 3-2.

Pulling goaltender Kevin Reich in favor of a an extra skater with three minutes remaining, the gambit made the game interesting when Jacob Benson potted his third goal of the series with 78 seconds in the match.

The host Saints applied plenty of pressure throughout the contest, but a limited shot count and a solid netminding effort by Jason Pawloski earned Indy their second title bid since joining the league in 2004.

Dubuque controlled not only the pace of the contest, but a 24-14 shot count throughout the contest. The normally potent Indy offense managed only 14 shots on net while firing only five in both the second and third periods.

Indy faced a 1-0 deficit going into the first intermission, but two goals on consecutive shots propelled the Ice to a 2-1 lead off the tape of Scott Conway and Alex Talcott. The tallies occurred less than three minutes apart in the middle of the frame.

The 2014 Clark Cup championship round begins Friday, May 9 with the representative from the Western Conference still yet to be determined. The Ice will face the winner of the Waterloo Black Hawks and Sioux City Musketeers series. Waterloo currently holds a 2-1 lead in the series.
