Capitols Draft 19 Players in Phase II Draft

Middleton, WI - The Madison Capitols participated in the 2019 USHL Phase II Draft on Tuesday, selecting 19 players in the draft. Madison drafted 16 forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender, including picking three times in the first round.

The Phase II Draft consisted of 23 rounds and is open to players of all ages eligible to play junior hockey and are not currently protected by another USHL team. Teams have 45 spots on a roster; this includes players that were previously on a team's Affiliate List. The Capitols had 19 total picks, with the remaining 26 spots occupied by returning players and affiliates from last year.

As the Capitols approached their first pick at the #4 slot (following a trade with Waterloo late last week), Madison swapped picks with the Lincoln Stars. In exchange for the #4 overall pick, Madison received the 11th and 12th picks in the draft, as well as future considerations.

"These players we drafted today have some big shoes to fill next year," says head coach Garrett Suter. "A lot of the guys have never played junior hockey before, but we believe they are ready to step up to the challenge and produce from day one."
