Madison Capitols News Release
MIDDLETON, Wisc. - The Capitols announced today the acquisition of three talented forwards, Jake Rozzi, Blake Bechen, and James Fisher from Youngstown. The three forwards complete a trade in which the Capitols sent the first overall pick in the 2023 USHL Phase II Draft to the Phantoms. These additions are set to continue the injection of a surge of talent and skill into the Capitols' lineup for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Jake Rozzi, a standout performer for the Phantoms during the Clark Cup-winning campaign, recorded an impressive 47 points, displaying exceptional offensive abilities on the ice. With his arrival in Madison, the Capitols anticipate Rozzi's seamless transition into the team's roster, where he will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the team's success. Rozzi stood out in the Clark Cup Final for Youngstown registering two points in the three games including the primary assist on the game two overtime winning goal. Rozzi is committed to playing his college hockey with Ohio State University following his junior career.
Blake Bechen, a player who played with the Madison Capitols AAA program at one point in his youth career, returns to Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena after a productive season with the Phantoms. Despite limited playing time, Bechen showcased his potential, tallying 12 points in 36 games. The Capitols recognize Bechen's familiarity with the organization and believe that his growth as a player will continue to flourish within the team's system.
Joining Rozzi and Bechen is James Fisher, a big and skilled forward with a bright future ahead. Fisher registered ten points in 42 games during his tenure with the Phantoms after being selected in the first round of the 2022 USHL Phase II Draft. Fisher's potential has already garnered attention from the professional ranks, with the Columbus Blue Jackets selecting him in the 2022 NHL Draft. The Capitols are thrilled to have Fisher on board and are confident that his drive and determination will be instrumental in the team's pursuit of success.
Head Coach and General Manager of the Madison Capitols, Andy Brandt, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisitions, stating, "We are absolutely thrilled to have Jake Rozzi, Blake Bechen, and James Fisher join the Madison Capitols organization. Jake is a high-end playmaker with the ability to make others around him better. He's had success statistically in the USHL. Blake's familiarity with our program was important along with his development over this past season. James is an NHL draft pick so we know that the pedigree is there, and we look forward to providing him an opportunity where he can play a pivotal role for the Capitols. Each of these players were a part of a championship run, and it's important to have their experiences join our organization. We believe their talents and experiences will greatly contribute to our pursuit of success both on and off the ice. We look forward to witnessing their impact and the positive influence they will have on our team."
The trio of players complete a draft day trade between the Capitols and Phantoms. In return for the three players, Madison sent Youngstown the first overall selection in the 2023 USHL Phase II Draft, which was used to pick Charlie Cerrato.
