June 1, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - Thursday afternoon the United States Hockey League announced that a total of 24 players from the league have received invitations to the NHL Scouting Combine. Lumberjacks defenseman Gavin McCarthy found himself as one of the players who received an invitation.
The event takes place at the HarborCenter in Buffalo, NY from June 4-10 with scouts and front office representatives from all 32 NHL teams in attendance. McCarthy and the other draft hopeful players will participate in numerous activities like the bench press, vertical jump, agility tests, and more to showcase their athleticism. McCarthy, a native of Clarence Center, NY grew up just under 30 minutes from the home of the Sabres.
Lumberjacks Head Coach Parker Burgess said "I think Gavin has a tremendous amount of professional hockey potential. With his skating and ability to play both sides of the puck you can see why a lot of people see his game translating to the professional level." on McCarthy's interest from the NHL.
McCarthy enters the draft ranked 52nd among North American Skaters. This comes after recording 27 points in 44 games on the Muskegon blue line.
The 2023 NHL Draft will take place at Bridgestone Arena starting with the first round on June 28th, and rounds 2-7 on June 29th. You can catch the draft on ESPN (night 1), and NHL Network (night 2).
