Capitals Re-sign Tomas Kundratek

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Tomas Kundratek to a two-year contract extension, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. Kundratek, 23, registered seven points (one goal, six assists) in 25 games with the Capitals last season, despite missing eight games due to injury. The 6'2", 195-pound defenseman led Hershey blueliners in goals (16) and points (31) while adding 15 assists. Kundratek set AHL career highs in goals, assists and points despite playing in just 49 games in 2012-13, and was named to the AHL Eastern Conference All-Star squad for the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Classic. In 181 career AHL games, the Prerov, Czech Republic, native has compiled 68 points (30 goals, 38 assists) with Hartford, Connecticut and Hershey. Kundratek has appeared in 30 NHL games, all with Washington, and recorded one goal and six assists. He was acquired from the New York Rangers in exchange for Francois Bouchard on Nov. 8, 2011, and made his NHL debut with Washington on Jan. 11, 2012 against Pittsburgh. Kundratek was originally drafted by the Rangers in the third round (90th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
