May 15, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have re-assigned center Andre Burakovsky to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.
Burakovsky, 20, registered three points (2g, 1a) in 11 games with the Capitals during the 2015 playoffs and scored two goals in Washington's 2-1 victory in Game 4 against the Rangers on May 6. In the last 75 years, Burakovsky is only the second rookie to record a multi-goal playoff game while scoring every one of his team's goals, joining Gilbert Dionne, who scored each of Montreal's goals in the Canadiens' 2-0 victory against the Hartford Whalers on April 19, 1992. Burakovsky is the fourth rookie in Capitals playoff history to score his first two playoff goals in the same game and the second to do so this year, joining Evgeny Kuznetsov (4/23/15 vs. NYI: 2g, 1a). In addition, Burakovsky is the fifth rookie in franchise history to score two goals in a playoff game, joining Kuznetsov (4/23/15 vs. NYI: 2g, 1a), Marcus Johansson (4/20/11 at NYR: 2g), Richard Zednik (5/28/98 at BUF: 2g, 1a) and Sergei Gonchar (5/6/95 at PIT: 2g, 1a).
The Malmo, Sweden, native played in 53 games with Washington during the regular season, registering 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) and 12 penalty minutes. Burakovsky made his NHL debut on Oct. 9 against Montreal and scored his first NHL goal in the first period. He became the 13th player in Capitals history to score his first NHL goal in his first NHL game and is one of just seven players in franchise history to score a goal in his NHL debut and season opener. The 6'3", 198-pound center registered seven points (three goals, four assists) in 13 games with Hershey this season and made his AHL debut on Dec. 19 at Lehigh Valley.
