Brockton Rox News Release
QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC - (August 25, 2009) - The Quebec Capitales tied a Can-Am League record for runs scored in a single game in a thorough 21-6 defeat of the Brockton Rox on Tuesday night at Stade Municipal in Quebec City. The Rox actually led 6-5 before being outscored 16-0 over the final four innings.
After falling behind 5-1 in the first two innings, the Brockton offense mounted a comeback effort resulting in five runs in the fourth inning. RF Keith Brachold tied the game with a three-run home run, and 3B Phillip Cuadrado scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by SS Dominic Ramos. It gave the Rox a 6-5 advantage, but that was short-lived.
Scoring in every inning except the third, the Quebec offense was relentless against a Rox pitching staff which struggled to find the strike zone, and a defense that was porous. The Rox committed six errors on the night and walked a season-high 12 batters as a staff. CF Goefrey Tomlinson drove in four runs, LF Alex Nunez scored five runs, C Patrick D'Aoust scored four runs, and 1B Pierre-Luc LaForest and 3B Patrick Deschenes each homered in the melee.
The Rox will look to get back in the series on Wednesday night with the Can-Am League's ERA leader RHP Wayne Lundgren (7-5, 2.82 ERA). Lundgren will face Quebec native RHP Eric Gagne (5-4, 4.57 ERA). Wednesday night's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
