Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER, MA--- There are some games of which the line score does not tell the whole story. Tonight was not one of those games. Sussex sent thirteen men to the plate, belted eight hits, and scored nine runs in the ninth to beat the Tornadoes 11-3.
Tornadoes starter Ryan Lobban had a no-hit bid into the sixth inning until Mark Pappas knocked a double down the third base line. Lobban would receive the no decision. Carter Clements (5-3) on the other hand, with eight innings of three run ball, was the benefactor record wise, notching his fifth victory of the season.
With a pair of doubles in the ninth, Sussex first baseman John Urick collected all five of his RBI's in the final frame. Jeremy Hunt added a run in the ninth to Urick's five in addition to his double that initially put the SkyHawks up 2-1 in the seventh.
Overshadowed by the Sussex pummeling in the ninth was Nick Salotti's fourth homer of the season that put Worcester up 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth. Anthony Sullivan (1-2) blew his second save of the year, and was also saddled with the loss.
Wednesday night is College Night at the HIP. Your college ID will get you half price tickets to see the Worcester Tornadoes take on the Sussex SkyHawks in game three of a four game set. First pitch at 7:05.
