Canucks sign Jason Krog

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced today they have signed forward Jason Krog to an NHL contract.

Krog, 32, appeared in all 80 games last season with the Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves and led the entire league in scoring in not only the regular season, but also the post-season. During the regular season, the Fernie, BC native became just the third player in the AHL's 72-year history to lead the league in goals (39), assists (73), and points (112). At the end of the regular season, Krog was voted the winner of the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL's Most Valuable Player. He recorded points in 62 of the Wolves' 80 games and had 33 multi-point games. He was then named an AHL 2007-08 First-Team All-Star. Krog followed up that career season with 12 goals and a record-tying 28 assists for 36 points in just 24 Calder Cup playoff games, including four points (3G,1A) in the title-clinching Game 6 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

In just the past two seasons alone with the Wolves, Krog scored 65 goals and 127 assists for 192 points in just 124 games. During his nine-year pro career, Krog has played in 303 AHL games with Providence, Lowell, Springfield, Bridgeport, Cincinnati, and Chicago. In that span, he's scored 127 goals and 235 assists for 362 points and 105 penalty minutes. He previously reached with the Calder Cup finals in 2002 as a member of the Sound Tigers. In 65 total Calder Cup playoff games, he's collected 27 goals and 55 assists for 82 points and 27 penalty minutes.

Krog also has extensive NHL experience with 198 games with the New York Islanders, Atlanta, Anaheim, and New York Rangers. He has scored 21 NHL goals and 37 assists for 58 points. In 2003, he reached the Stanley Cup final as a member of the Anaheim Ducks. He was also the winner of the Hobey Baker Award as the top college hockey player in the U.S. back in 1999 while playing with the University of New Hampshire Wildcats.
