Canton Tops Iowa in Wire to Wire Win

The Canton Charge (28-18), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, topped the Iowa Energy (24-22), 99-90, at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Saturday night. Canton improves to 5-0 on the road and 9-3 overall versus the Central Division this season.

Brandon Paul netted a three-pointer on the game's opening possession that gave Canton a lead that they maintained for the entire duration of the game. Up by as many as 13 points throughout, the Charge dished 24 assists on 38 field goals and converted 13-of-27 three-pointers. Paul finished with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 7-of-10 three-pointers, with nine rebounds in 36 minutes.

Stephen Holt added an all-around effort of 14 points with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in 32 minutes. James Singleton added 12 points and five assists in 36 minutes. Arinze Onuaku came off the bench to supply 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and five rebounds in 29 minutes. The Charge currently hold the top Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with four games to play.

Six Iowa players scored in double figures, led by Damien Wilkins' 18 points in 37 minutes. Jarnell Stokes posted a double-double of 12 points and 13 boards in 34 minutes, while Larry Owens added a double-double of his own with 10 points and 12 rebounds in 44 minutes. Russ Smith netted 15 points and six rebounds in 34 minutes. The Energy surrendered the ball for 20 turnovers that resulted in 36 points.

The two teams meet again tomorrow night in Des Moines at 5:00 p.m. Canton returns home to host the Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics affiliate) on Wednesday, April 1st at 7:00 p.m. The players will be wearing navy shooting shirts and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will get a navy rally towel in support of Stark Job & Family Services.
