Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania, Saturday, March 28, 2015 - The Erie BayHawks (22-25) toppled the Delaware 87ers (19-28) for the second time in as many days, this time 113-107 in regulation. Seth Curry finished the game with a game high 37 points on 13 of 23 shooting and scored 12 straight points in the final minutes to close the game for Erie.
The BayHawks took a six-point lead after the first quarter, fueled by Seth Curry and Lenzelle Smith, Jr. The 87ers started the second frame scoring the game's next eight points as part of a 25-8 run to take their biggest lead of the game at nine. That lead was short-lived just three minutes later as the BayHawks responded with 15 straight of their own to take the advantage heading into halftime.
A back-and-fourth third quarter featured Curry's passing game, where he picked up his 10th assist of the game, a new season high, to grab a double-double. He previously had nine on January 24 against Canton earlier in the year. Despite another great scoring quarter for Smith, Jr., making his second consecutive start for injured Peyton Siva and Keith Appling, the game was all tied up heading to the final quarter.
John Bohannon was able to get a bucket and the foul to give Erie the lead again early in the fourth. The 87ers then used a 7-0 run to turn the table once again when Bohannon ended it to cut the game to five. Curry's three as the shot clock expired pushed the game to as many as one in the closing minutes as the BayHawks took advantage of a 9-1 run. Curry ended the game scoring 12 of Erie's final 14 points and the BayHawks pulled away late to win 113-107.
Curry finished with a game high 37 points while Smith, Jr. scored a personal season high 22 points. Bohannon, along with Curry, tallied a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebound off the bench. Jordan McRae for Delaware scored a team high 28 points while other starter D.J. Seeley put up 27.
The BayHawks will rematch the 87ers once again on Wednesday night at Erie Insurance Arena at 7:00 PM. Erie then travels to Grand Rapids to take on the Drive Friday night.
