SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Thursday afternoon that the organization has come to terms with starting pitcher Miles Nordgren for the 2017 American Association season.

Nordgren, 24, was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 23rd round of the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft out of Birmingham-Southern College. He spent three seasons in the Twins minor league system, going 7-17 with a 3.10 ERA in 57 total appearances. The crafty right-hander made 32 minor league starts, totaling 159 strikeouts over 242 2/3 innings of work.

The Birmingham, AL native began the season in the Midwest league with the Cedar Rapids Kernels where he made 17 appearances, going 4-6 with a 2.91 ERA. Nordgren racked up 80 strikeouts while walking 22 batters over 89 2/3 innings before a promotion to the Florida State League with the Fort Myers Miracle. He went 1-5 with a 5.50 ERA over his final seven starts, but continued to rack up the K's, finishing the season with 97 total strikeouts and a combined record of 5-11 to go along with a 3.68 ERA.

"We' re excited to have a lock down pitcher like Miles in our rotation," said Canaries General Manager Duell Higbe. "He's a work horse with a solid track record. We think he will thrive in our league and help solidify our rotation moving forward."

The Sioux Falls Canaries enter their 25th season on May 18th against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis & Clark Park.
