Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Earlier today, the Canaries signed first baseman Justin Schuda to a contract for the 2006 season. Schuda led all hitters in the Frontier League last season with 26 home runs and was fifth in the league with 79 RBIs. Schuda is the fifth Canary signed for the upcoming season who has hit at least 10 home runs in a single season.

The team also added Alexis Hernandez who was the Golden Baseball League's home run leader in 2005 and Chad Hermansen who totaled 20-plus home runs for four consecutive seasons before being called to the big leagues by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1999.
Schuda, a California native, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 27th round of the 1999 draft. Last season, he was selected to the Frontier League all-star game.
