Robstown, TX - The Sioux Falls Canaries (2-4) fell victim to strong pitching and stellar defense from the Coastal Bend Aviators (5-1) in a 6-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.

The Aviators took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bryon Smith got on base with a two-out double to right field. Smith advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Matt Creighton to give Coastal Bend a 1-0 lead.

Coastal Bend added a pair of unearned runs in the seventh. Jamie Landin reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base. Dennis Anderson's throw to second was errant allowing Landin to take third base. After Ryan Ruiz walked, Bryan Fryer hit a groundball to Canaries shortstop Angelo Fermin. The groundball should have ended the inning, but Fermin's throw to first was high allowing Fryer to reach and Landin to score for a 2-0 Aviators lead. Rodney Medina followed with a double to score Ruiz and put the Aviators in front 3-0.

The Aviators extended their lead further in the eighth. Wilson Burwell hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly to score Bryon Smith for a 4-0 lead. Jamie Landin walked to reload the bases. Ryan Ruiz followed with a walk to force in a run and Brian Fryer grounded into a fielder's choice to score Jack Joffrion for the 6-0 final.

Diving catches by centerfielder Ryan Ruiz, shortstop Jack Joffrion, and second baseman Jamie Landin helped the Aviators pitcher's combine for the shutout. Pedro Flores (4-2) went seven innings allowing five hits and three walks to get the win. B.J. Litchfield pitched the final two innings to complete the shutout. Tony Cogan (5-2) took the hard luck loss for the Canaries.
