Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

(SIOUX FALLS, SD) – When the Sioux Falls Canaries released their schedule of "out of left field" promotions for the 2003 season, they figured they might raise a few eyebrows and turn a few heads. The latest chuckles come from ESPN's Jayson Stark, a frequent analyst on Baseball Tonight and writer for ESPN.com. Stark applauds the Canaries' August 26th promotion of "Toilet Paper Appreciation Night" at the Birdcage in his weekly online column, "Rumblings and Grumblings.

Stark calls the Birds' promotion, which is sponsored by Roto-Rooter, the "Promotion of the week." The game is scheduled for 7:03 PM when the Canaries take on the visiting Joliet Jackhammers. To see Stark's complete column, go to ESPN.com's Major League Baseball link and click on "Rumblings and Grumblings.

Among some of the other wacky promotions on tap at the Birdcage this season are Protest Night (June 18), where Birds fans will be handed a blank placard and encouraged to voice a protest of their choice; Plumber Appreciation Night (July 5) and RedNeck Night (July 31).

The Birds kick off the 2003 season on May 23rd in Schaumburg before opening up the home schedule with a May 26th clash against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Great season tickets and mini plans are now on sale and can be ordered by calling (605) 333-0179.
