
Canaries outpitch Saints for 2-1 win

St. Paul, MN - The Canaries (1-1-1) rode strong performances from four pitchers to a 2-1 victory over the St. Paul Saints at Midway Stadium on Saturday night.
Evan Greusal started the game for the Canaries. He pitched three scoreless innings allowing only one hit. Jason Wall relieved Greusal. Wall worked four innings allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out one. Jason Cierlik kept the Saints of the board in a one-hit eighth, and after the Canaries went ahead in the ninth Lenny Bays shut the door allowing only a walk.
The Canaries took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Kenta Suzumegano hit a solo home run, the Canaries first of the exhibition season.
In the fifth inning, Saints shortstop Steve Butler singled to score Jeremy Frost and tie the game, 1-1.
The Canaries pulled in front, 2-1, in top of the ninth. Chris Hall hit a one-out double to start the rally. After a wild pitch moved Hall to third, Chris Weber singled to drive in the go-ahead run.
The Canaries will host the Sioux City Explorers for their lone exhibition game in Sioux Falls on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. The exhibition game will be played in conjunction with the team's 2006 tryout. The tryout begins at 11:00 a.m. Canaries Manager Mike Pinto will select up to nine players from the tryout to participate in the exhibition game. Everyone who makes the cut will play at least one inning in right field, and if fortune permits they will gat a chance at the plate.
