SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries added another big bat to their lineup on Tuesday morning when the team announced that they have claimed OF/1B Bobby Coyle off waivers from the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Coyle last played in 2014 in the Los Angeles Dodgers' organization, batting .289 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 47 games with the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts. The Chatsworth, CA native holds a .284 career batting average to go along with his 66 doubles, 42 home runs, and 187 RBI's in five professional seasons.

"Bobby has been on our radar ever since last season," said Canaries general manager Duell Higbe. "We had some good conversations with him but he ultimately decided to go back to school in finish his degree. We are glad he got the itch to play again."

Coyle was drafted by the Dodgers in the 10th round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of California State University, Fresno where he hit .360 with 11 home runs and 69 RBI in 62 games for the Bulldogs during his junior season in 2010.

The left-handed power hitter's best professional season came in 2012, posting a combined .370 batting average while collecting 29 extra base hits and 37 RBI's in 69 games for Chattanooga and the Class-A Advanced affiliate, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

"He has always done one thing well throughout his career, and that's hit," Added Higbe. "Bobby is going to sit in the middle of our order and be a major run producer. We are looking to have Bobby and David Bergin in the heart of our lineup, driving in all of the speed guys we have batting at the top."

Coyle and the Sioux Falls Canaries enter their 24th season on May 19th against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis & Clark Park. The Canaries kick off the 2016 home portion of their schedule on Friday, May 20th with a special presentation from All-Star Fireworks after the game.
