Canadiens Sign Goaltender Joey Macdonald to One-Year, Two-Way Contract

MONTREAL, QUEBEC - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Canadiens have signed goaltender Joey MacDonald to a one-year, two-way National Hockey League / American Hockey League contract for the 2014-2015 season.
MacDonald split the 2013-2014 season between the NHL's Calgary Flames and the AHL's Abbotsford Heat. In 11 regular season games with Calgary, the 34-year-old posted a record of 5-4-1 with a 2.90 goals-against average and .890 save percentage. In 16 games with Abbotsford, the Pictou, Nova Scotia native had a record of 5-10-0 with a 3.00 goals-against average and .909 save percentage.
A veteran of 13 professional seasons, MacDonald has played more than 400 NHL and AHL games combined during his career. In 133 career NHL regular season games with the Flames, Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Islanders and Boston Bruins, the 6'0", 197-pound goaltender has compiled a record of 44-61-15 with a 3.00 goals-against average, .902 save percentage and two shutouts. In 300 career AHL regular season games with the Heat, Grand Rapids Griffins, Toronto Marlies and Bridgeport Sound Tigers, he has posted a record of 144-125-11 with a 2.62 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and 24 shutouts. In 2002-2003, MacDonald shared the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award with Griffins teammate Marc Lamothe as the goaltenders with the lowest team goals against in the AHL.
