
Rangers Agree to Terms with Free Agent Steven Kampfer

NEW YORK, July 1, 2014 - New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the team has agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Steven Kampfer.
Kampfer, 25, skated in 69 games this past season with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL), registering six goals and 20 assists for 26 points, along with 48 penalty minutes. He established AHL career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, and shots on goal (145). He ranked second among Wild defensemen in goals, and finished third among defensemen on the team in assists and points.
The 5-11, 197-pounder has skated in 61 career NHL games with Boston and Minnesota, registering seven goals and eight assists for 15 points, along with 18 penalty minutes and a plus-nine rating. Kampfer made his NHL debut on December 9, 2010 vs. the NY Islanders, and tallied his first career NHL point with an assist on December 15, 2010 at Buffalo. He has also posted a plus or even rating in 47 of his 61 career games.
Kampfer has also skated in 176 career AHL games, registering 16 goals and 58 assists for 74 points, along with 108 penalty minutes. He made his AHL debut with the Providence Bruins on April 2, 2010 vs. Worcester, and recorded his first career AHL goal and assist as part of a two-point effort on April 9, 2010 vs. Springfield.
The Ann Arbor, Michigan native was originally selected by Anaheim in the fourth round, 93rd overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
