Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, OR) - Canadians closer RHP Chuck Ghysels struck out Salem-Keizer 3B Sam Eberle with the tying run out at second base as Vancouver extended its current winning streak to four games with a 5-4 victory on Friday night.
Vancouver would open the scoring in the top of the 1st inning when SS Dickie Thon hit a triple off of Salem-Keizer starter RHP Jose Reyes before coming into score on a ground out from 3B Andy Fermin.
The Canadians would plate three runs in the top of the 5th inning with a little help from Volcanoes pitching who issued five walks in the frame allowing 3B Andy Fermin to grab his second RBI of the night when his single scored SS Dickie Thon to help build a 5-1 lead.
Salem-Keizer would struggle offensively as for the second straight night out at Volcanoes Stadium the Canadians would get solid pitching.
Vancouver RHP Jeremy Gabryszwski (1-0) would go five innings, scattering six hits on the night for his first win of the season. The combination of RHP Brandon Dorsett, RHP Justin D'Alessandro and RHP Chuck Ghysels would limit the Volcanoes to just three hits over the final four innings.
Ghysels, who picked up the save on Friday night, ran into trouble in the 9th inning when PH Randy Ortiz and SS Brandon Bednar connected on base hits to cut the lead to 5-4, but with Bednar out at second base representing the tying run, Ghysels struck out 3B Sam Eberle for the victory.
With the win, Vancouver improves to 5-3 (.625) on the young Northwest League season while Salem-Keizer falls to 5-3 (.625) with the loss.
