Canadians open with 5-0 win over Hillsboro
July 20, 2018 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Four Canadians pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout of the Northwest League's most dominant team as Vancouver stopped the Hillsboro Hops from popping champagne with a 5-0 win on Thursday night out at sun soaked, sold out, Scotiabank Field.
RHP Joey Murray (2.0IP), RHP Sean Wymer (3.0IP), RHP Fitz Stadler (3.0IP) and RHP Colton Law (1.0IP) combined for the shutout with Wymer (2-2) grabbing his second win of the season while Hops starter RHP Adrian Del Moral fell to 0-2.
Offensively the Canadians got a 2-for-3 night from DH McGregory Contreras with a run scored and an RBI while SS Vinny Capra hit his 2nd home run of the season in the home half of the 4th inning off Del Moral to help Vancouver get back to the .500 mark through 34 first-half games.
The out-of-town scoreboard didn't do the Canadians any favours as North Division leading Everett (18-16) pounded Boise 17-2 to maintain a one game lead on Vancouver with four games remaining in the first half. The C's have to win two more games than Everett over the remaining four games as Everett holds the tiebreaker against Vancouver taking four of the six head-to-head meetings this half.
Vancouver sends RHP Juan Nunez (0-1, 2.93) heads to the mound on Friday, July 20th at 1:05pm in search of a third straight victory for the Canadians. The C's announced earlier this week that Friday (July 20), Saturday (July 21) and Sunday (July 22) are SOLD OUT with tickets remaining for Monday's Fortis BC Jersey Throwback Night at 7:05pm.
Tickets to Vancouver Canadians Baseball can be purchased by calling 604.872.5232, online at www.canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
