
Canadians Even Series With Dust Devils; Win 3-1

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - A towering two-run double off the bat of Canadians 1B Balbino Fuenmayor scored both CF Dalton Pompey and RF Nick Baligod in the bottom of the 8th inning to help Vancouver to a 3-1 victory over Tri-City on Thursday night.
The Canadians (5-2) got six solid innings out of starter RHP Taylor Cole who allowed seven hits and just a lone run in the top of the 4th inning when a groundout from C Tom Murphy scored RF Derek Jones who reached earlier on a hard hit single. The tandem of RHP Phil Brua (2.0IP) and RHP closer Drew Permison (1IP) managed the final three frames without giving up a run.
Offensively, Vancouver got an RBI single from DH Matt Newman in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring CF Dalton Pompey to tie the game at 1-1. Pompey and RF Nick Baligod where both on base in the bottom of the 8th inning when 1B Balbino Fuenmayor hit a two-run double deep to center field off of Tri-City reliever RHP John Hungerman to help the C's to their first home win of the season.
With the victory, Vancouver improves to 5-2 (.714) on the season and maintain a share of top spot in the Northwest League's West Division. The loss drops Tri-City to 3-4 (.429).
Notes: Canadians OF Ron Melendez was placed on the 7-day disabled list with a hand inury while INF Jorge Flores was activated prior to Thursday night's game... Vancouver's streak of consecutive sellouts (9) ended with 3,730 fans taking in the action on an overcast night out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
