Boise Hawks News Release
VANCOUVER, B.C. - Jonathan Jones scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning, breaking a 2-2 tie, as the Vancouver Canadians defeated the Boise Hawks, 4-2, before 3,071 fans at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Jones led off the seventh with his 11th double of the year and stole third base - scoring on a Jose Rosario pitch that kicked off home plate and went to the screen. He would add a sacrifice fly in the eighth to cap the scoring.
The Canadians took a 2-0 lead in the third on a two-out Bryan Kervin double and a Nick Baligod single, but the Hawks rallied, scoring a pair in the fourth on a Reggie Golden single and a Wes Darvill groundball out.
Jones, Baligod, and Jon Berti each had two hits for Vancouver, while Boise was limited to just three hits by three C's pitchers - as Travis Garrett retired all six men he faced to pick up his third win.
Ben Wells went five innings for the Hawks in a no-decision, allowing two runs and fanning four. Rosario took the loss, allowing five hits and two runs in three innings.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night, with Yao-Lin Wang meeting Jesse Hernandez at 7:05 p.m. (PT)
NOTE - Boise made three roster moves prior to the game - sending IF Travis Garcia and C Yaniel Cabezas to the AZL-Cubs, and P Luis Liria to Peoria.
