Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes are proud to partner with Canadian Blood Services next month with the 3rd annual "Get in the Game" campaign which encourages Canadians and motivates younger donors to take the first steps towards donation. Join us on Tuesday, January 29th at 11:00 am at Canadian Blood Services (Lethbridge Centre, 2nd Level, #220, 200 - 4th Avenue South) as we kickoff this years campaign.
The demand for blood and blood products is always increasing at a rate of 2-4% each year. Throughout the month of February, volunteers and staff from Canadian Blood Services will be at all Hurricanes home games offering information on donating as well as a "What's your Type" program where staff will help Southern Albertans determine what their blood type is.
This year there's an added bonus as the Lethbridge Hurricanes are in a head to head challenge with their Division rivals the Red Deer Rebels to see who can bring in the most blood donations in the month of February.
Last year, the target was 250 donations with 50 units coming from new donors. The campaign wrapped up with 71 new donors and 179 regular donations which equal 250 units of blood. Not only did we hit our goal, but we exceeded it by 21 new donors and we know this year will once again be a huge success!
"DID YOU KNOW"
More than 50% of Canadians say they or a family member have needed blood or blood products
Giving blood is one of the most direct ways you can help someone. When you donate, your unit of blood is typically used by a patient within a week
The need for blood is constant. Blood is used every day to treat patients with bleeding disorders, people undergoing surgery, transplant recipients, cancer patients, trauma patients, newborn babies and many others.
The Hurricanes also encourage everyone to stop by Canadian Blood Services at Lethbridge Centre where you have a chance to win a game-worn Hurricanes jersey autographed by the players as well as a voucher pack of tickets.
