Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS - Drew Campbell put a ball on the ground in the infield for a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Mississippi Braves (52-68, 19-33) snapped a four-game losing skid with a 6-5 win over the Rocket City Trash Pandas (55-66, 24-28) on Tuesday night at Trustmark Park.
The two clubs played a seven-inning game after completing a suspended game from August 13 earlier in the day. The Trash Pandas won the suspended game 3-0.
After completing the suspended game, the M-Braves jumped on Rocket City for three runs in the first inning. Brandon Parker scored the first run of the game on a fielder's choice, and Hendrik Clementina punched a chopper through the middle of the infield for a two-run single to make it 3-0.
Rocket City responded with a four-run second to take a 4-3 lead.
In the third, Parker's RBI single tied the game at 4-4. Parker went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Cal Conley scored a run with a single in the fourth to retake the lead at 5-4. Conley went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.
The Trash Pandas tied the game at 5-5 when their baserunner beat a throw to the plate in the sixth inning. Brooks Wilson came in for the eighth inning and prevented a run from coming across.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jesse Franklin V entered the game as a pinch runner at second base. Franklin stole third base on the first pitch of the inning. Bryson Horne drew a walk to bring up Campbell. The outfielder hit a chopper to the right side that was knocked down by the first baseman, but Franklin scored well before a throw to the plate to win it 6-5.
Kyle Wilcox and Hayden Harris each put up dominant relief appearances to keep the M-Braves in the game. Wilcox struck out a pair and retired six in a row in two shutout innings. Harris came in with a jam in the sixth, kept the game tied and exited with 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
The second game of the series is on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park. RHP Daniel Martinez (0-2, 6.23) will make the start Mississippi while RHP Victor Mederos (4-9, 5.78) will start for Rocket City. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
