Campbell's Three-Run Homer Rallies RedHawks Past Goldeyes

FARGO, ND - With his team facing a 6-5 deficit, Eric Campbell hit a two out, three-run home run in the bottom half of the sixth inning to help stake the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to a 9-6 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Sunday afternoon at a sold out Newman Outdoor Field.

Campbell was 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks, a sacrifice fly and four RBI while scoring three runs.

Fargo-Moorhead (49-34) also received a big afternoon from first baseman Jeremiah Piepkorn. The reigning Northern League batting champ was 3-for-5 with three RBI doubles in the game.

RedHawks starter Jake Laber was a workhorse on the mound, tossing 113 pitches in seven innings of action. Despite allowing thirteen hits and four walks, the lefty held the Goldeyes to just six runs (five earned). Casey Hoorebeke pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his fourth save of the season for Fargo-Moorhead.

The RedHawks started the scoring early, putting up three runs up in the first inning. Leadoff man Mike Coles drew a walk and later scored on Campbell's sacrifice fly. Piepkorn drove in Nic Jackson on a double and later scored on a two-bagger by Jay Cox.

Winnipeg (42-43) got in the scoring column in the second. Former RedHawk Justin Justice led off with a triple and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Vince Harrison to cut the lead to 3-1.

Fargo-Moorhead's Jackson led off the second with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Winnipeg second baseman Kevin West. Piepkorn's second double of the day brought him home to make the score 4-1.

The Goldeyes scored three more times in the fifth inning to tie the game 4-4. Luis Alen plated two with an RBI-single and designated hitter Juan Diaz scored from third after an error by Fargo-Moorhead's Piepkorn.

The RedHawks answered in the home half of the fifth to take the lead 5-4. Campbell walked and took second after an error by Winnipeg's Harrison. A sacrifice fly by Cox moved Campbell to third and he then scored on Carlo Cota's RBI-single.

Winnipeg came back with two more runs in the top of the sixth. Brett Wallace and Aharon Eggleston led off the inning with a pair of walks and scored on a single by Dee Brown and a fielder's choice by West to make the score 6-5 and set up Campbell's blast.

Piepkorn helped Fargo-Moorhead add an insurance run in the eighth with his third RBI-double of the afternoon.

Jason Mackintosh (1-5) was saddled with the loss for Winnipeg. He went 5.2 innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits. The lefty also struck out five and walked two.

The RedHawks will welcome the Lake County Fielders to Newman Outdoor Field for a three-game series starting tomorrow afternoon while the Goldeyes will head home to host Rockford.
