Joliet JackHammers News Release

JOLIET, IL - Jonathan Wyatt singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth to give the Joliet JackHammers (44-42) a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon over the Kansas City T-Bones (48-37) at Silver Cross Field. The victory was Joliet's seventh win in their final at-bat this season.

The JackHammers took three of four from Kansas City, picking up the win against former closer Drew Shetrone (0-7). Chris Colton walked to start the tenth and moved to second on a bunt single by Roberto Mena. The ball hugged the first base line and stopped for a fair ball to put the first two runners on. After Joe Billick struck out trying to bunt the runners up, Shetrone threw a wild pitch with Josh Flores at the plate. The T-Bones intentionally walked Flores to load the bases with one out for Wyatt. The left fielder dropped in a single between three fielders in shallow left center for the walk off victory.

Griffin Bailey (4-4) worked the final 1.1 innings for the victory. Bailey came on with two on and two outs in the ninth, allowing an infield single to Jake Blackwood to load the bases. Jim Fasano grounded the first pitch to second to keep the game knotted at three.

Kansas City hit three solo home runs in the game, taking a 1-0 lead on Blackwood's league leading 29th home run in the first off Todd Privett. Keanon Simon added another solo shot against Privett in the fifth for a 2-1 T-Bones lead.

The JackHammers tied the game in the second off Cody McAllister, plating a run on a Wyatt sacrifice fly. Joliet took their first lead in the sixth at 3-2, scoring two runs. Billick and Flores walked to start the frame with Wyatt grounding into a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners. Kevin Rios tied the game with a sacrifice fly to chase McAllister and Brad Correll singled against Steven Stewart for the 3-2 lead.

The T-Bones picked up their final tally in the seventh on a Jimmy Mojica home run to right centerfield. Wes Alsup surrendered the solo homer with one out to tie the game at three.

Both starters didn't factor in the decision with Privett working the first six innings, allowing two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.

McAllister walked a season high six batters, surrendering three runs on six hits over 5.2 innings. Stewart went 3.1 frames out of the bullpen without allowing a run.

Alsup tossed two innings allowing the solo home run with Erik Hamren working two-thirds of an inning in his JackHammer debut. The reliever was traded for Michael Rocco before the game and didn't allow a run against his former team.

Wyatt, Correll and Mena each had two hits with Wyatt knocking in a game high two runs, including the game winning run.

The JackHammers finished the season 10-7 against Kansas City, including a 6-2 mark at Silver Cross Field. Joliet will continue their eight game home stand tomorrow night when the Schaumburg Flyers visit Silver Cross Field. Rory Shortell (2-8) will make his 17th start of the season for the JackHammers. First pitch is slated for 6:10 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.

Loose Gravel - The JackHammers improved to 7-1 in extra inning games, the most wins and games played of any Northern League team this season - Kevin Rios extended his hitting streak to seven games with a ninth inning single - Joliet has now won the past seven starts by Todd Privett
