'Hammers Notch 7-4 Marathon Victory Over T-Bones

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers (43-42) took advantage of ten walks in a 7-4 victory Saturday night over the Kansas City T-Bones (48-36) in front of 5,720 fans at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers earned the win in a season long four hours and eight minutes and guaranteed the season series victory against the T-Bones.

Joliet snapped a 2-2 tie in the fourth with three against Kevin Light (3-2), taking the lead for good. Roberto Mena led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Joe Billick. After a walk to Josh Flores, Jonathan Wyatt doubled home Mena to knock out Light. Erik Hamren came on and Brad Correll plated two with a double down the right field line for a5-2 advantage.

Devin Anderson (5-4) earned his second straight victory, working five plus innings allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts.

Kansas City jumped out with two unearned runs in the first against Anderson. Jim Fasano knocked in his first of two runs on the night with a single after Jake Blackwood and Rico Washington reached on a single and error, respectively. Brian Joynt singled and Ryan Fox coaxed a bases loaded walk for the 2-0 lead.

The JackHammers tied it in the second with two runs of their own, scoring on a wild pitch and bases loaded walk by Light. Kevin Rios walked, Mena singled and Billick walked to load the bases. Flores picked up an RBI with a walk of his own with Mena scoring later on a wild pitch.

Light was tagged with the loss, surrendering five runs on four hits with six walks in 3.1 innings.

The two teams exchanged two runs each the rest of the way for the 7-4 final. Griffin Bailey picked up his 13th save with a scoreless ninth inning, inducing a double play for the final two outs.

Correll, Mena and Wyatt each had two hits with Correll and Flores each knocking in two runs.

The JackHammers and T-Bones will meet for the final time in the regular season tomorrow afternoon at Silver Cross Field. Todd Privett (8-4) will look to win his fifth straight decision opposite Cody McAllister (10-5). First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. pre-game show on the JackHammers Radio Network.
