Biloxi Shuckers News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - After facing a 3-0 deficit after two innings to the Montgomery Biscuits, the Biloxi Shuckers used two home runs and four innings of one-run ball from the bullpen to win, 7-5, at Riverwalk Stadium. With the win, the Shuckers are tied for the best record in the Southern League at 14-10, while the Biscuits fall to 12-12.
Montgomery mounted an early lead after Austin Shenton blasted his second home run of the series in the first, Evan Edwards tripled home a run in the second and Erik Ostberg drove him in with a fielder's choice. Down 3-0, the Shuckers quickly tied it up on a three-run home run from Noah Campbell, his third of the year. The Shuckers took a 4-3 lead in the fourth with a solo home run from Jeferson Quero, also his third of the year.
The Biscuits tied it up in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Alika Williams. The Shuckers then retook the lead, 6-4, on a two-RBI single from Wes Clarke in the fifth. The single marked Clarke's first multi-hit game of the year.
The Shuckers extended the lead to 7-4 in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly from Zavier Warren.
Shuckers' starter Justin Jarvis allowed three earned runs over five innings on the mound before Nick Bennett took the ball. Over 2.2 innings of work, Bennett allowed a run in the seventh when Alexander Ovalles singled home Greg Jones. The single ended Bennett's 8.2-inning scoreless streak.
With the lead at 7-5, the Shuckers brought on Cam Robinson for the four-out save. After two walks to start his appearance, Robinson retired the next four hitters he faced to earn his second save of the year.
In the top of the ninth, Shuckers infielder Tyler Black stole second for his 14th of the year, a new career high.
Jarvis (3-1) earned the win while Biscuits' starter Cole Wilcox (0-2) took the loss. The teams will play at 6:35 p.m. tomorrow night for game four of the series. The Shuckers would ensure a series split or better in their fifth straight series with a win.
