Sanford Mainers News Release
KEENE, N.H. - The Sanford Mainers traveled to Alumni Field on Thursday night. In a game where Keene's starting pitching came out strong and limited the Sanford offense, Cam Ridley (Eastern Kentucky) stole the show for the Mainers with five stolen bases in a 4-2 loss to the Keene SwampBats.
Matt Aronson (UMass) made his first start of the season in the game, and outside of one home run from the SwampBats he limited runs well. Aronson scattered five hits in five innings, allowing two earned runs, two walks, and striking out four.
Keene scored the first runs of the game on a two-run home run from Daniel DeGeorgio in the fifth inning that gave the SwampBats a 2-0 lead.
In the following inning, Sanford was able to respond right away. Following a Ridley walk and a Pierce Gallo (Clemson) single, Dayne Leonard (Virginia Tech) singled up the middle to drive in both runs to tie the game.
Ridley was dominant on the bases, stealing five bases and not getting caught once. He upped his season total to nine stolen bags on the season.
Gavin Hinchliffe (Delaware) came on as the first reliever in the sixth inning, and was able to work out of a bases loaded jam with three strikeouts in the inning.
The SwampBats took the lead in the seventh inning with two hits and two hit-by-pitches, and were sparked by a double and a single with the bases loaded to take a 4-2 lead.
The Mainers were led offensively by Leonard, who went 1-4 with a run, along with Jonny Barditch (Manhattan College) who went 2-4. Ridley didn't record an official at-bat, as he walked three times, scored a run, and stole five bases.
The Sanford Mainers have another game against the Keene SwampBats up next, this time at home on Saturday night.
