New Jersey Jackals News Release
LITTLE FALLS, NJ-New Jersey Jackals right-hander Jeremy Callier (6-3) tossed the first no-hitter in franchise history as the Jackals defeated the Berkshire Black Bears, 2-0, Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. Callier's no-hitter did not become official until teammate Ryan Kane hit a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The 26 year-old Callier allowed only two base runners during the game. He walked Michael Moore in the 2nd inning and Ender Gonzalez reached on an error in the 7th inning. Callier struck out a season-high seven batters in tossing his first complete game of the season.
"Around the third inning or so I realized that I had special stuff this evening," said Callier after the game. "I had the best slider I've ever thrown." Callier added, "It didn't hit me that I had thrown a no-hitter after Kaner hit the home run. Instead I was ecstatic that we had won the game. It hit me when (manager) George (Tsamis) hugged me and congratulated me and then my teammates lifted me into the air."
Kane's 12th home run of the season came with one out and one on in the bottom of the ninth. Reliever Matt Baile (2-2) served up the game-winning shot.
Callier had to out-duel Berkshire's Brian Gouin, who allowed only 2 hits and 2 walks over 7 innings. Gouin received a no-decision and struck out 4 batters.
The no-hitter is the third in Northern League East history. Current Jackals' right-hander Joel Bennett tossed one for Newburgh in 1996 and Elmira's Greg Keagle pitched a no-hitter in 2000.
