Calgary Roughnecks Roll Vancouver Warriors 14-7

Vancouver, BC - The Calgary Roughnecks defeated the Vancouver Warriors 14-7 on Saturday night at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, in their only matchup for the 2023-24 regular season.

The Roughnecks found the net early with Jesse King scoring his first of the night two minutes in, with the visitors adding two more to the tally before Vancouver were able to reply. Kinger and Josh Currier both netted two with Haiden Dickson adding a fifth in the first quarter, staying ahead of the Warriors by 1 goal heading into the second frame. Calgary charged ahead through the second, adding another five goals whilst keeping Vancouver scoreless. Tanner Cook scored three straight, with Josh Currier and Jeff Cornwall also finding the net with seconds left to leave the Roughnecks up 10-4 heading into the half time break.

A slower third quarter saw just two goals drop for each side, with Calgary maintaining a strong lead thanks to Cook's fourth goal of the night and King's third goal of the night, his second on the powerplay. At 12-7 heading into the final frame, the Roughnecks continued to widen the gap on their lead. Shane Simpson notched his first of the night, Tanner Cook added a fifth goal to take the win 14-7.

Cook led the offence in points with seven from five goals and 2 assists. Jesse King continued his strong start to the season with six points (3g, 3a) along with Josh Currier who notched his first hattrick of the year. Zach Currier's four loose ball effort took him to 1001 for his career.

Christian Del Bianco made 48 saves, and during tonight's game became the 20th goalie in NLL history to hit 5000 minutes played in his career.

Calgary now heads to Denver for their matchup with the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday, January 21st at 7:00pm mst. Fans can catch all the action on TSN+.
