Calfapietra wins 200th in victory over Aces

Little Falls, NJ- The Jackals scored six unanswered runs after falling behind early, as they defeated the Aces by a final score of 6-2. The win propelled the Jackals back into first place in the South Division, and marks Manager Joe Calfapietra's 200th win in professional baseball, in five years of managing.

For the third straight game, the Aces came out swinging in the early innings. They put two on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning, on a throwing error by Jackals' catcher Alberto Vasquez and a sacrifice fly by Al Corbeil.

New Jersey would jump ahead in the bottom of the fourth. Wilton Veras grounded out, scoring Zack Smithlin, and Scott Goodman roped an RBI single into right field. Chris Rowan would cross the plate on an error, a pickoff throw to first base. After four, the Jackals led 3-2.

They would put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh, when three runs would cross the plate, including an RBI single by Kevin Grijak.

Jackals' starter Aaron Myers would again impress. He went seven innings, scattering four hits, giving up two runs, none of them earned, while striking out seven. The win was his fifth of 2004, and fourth in a row.

All-Star Alex Pena, of the Aces, surrendered six runs, three of them earned, on six hits, in a losing effort.

For New Jersey, Kevin Grijak was 2-3 including a double, a run scored, and a run driven in.

Eddie Gerald was 1-4, for the Aces, with a run scored.

The Jackals remain at home until Wednesday. The defending Northeast League Champion Brockton Rox come to Yogi Berra Stadium on Monday, July 26, 2004.
