Cakes Drop Contest 5-3 in Omaha

Papillion, NE - Peter O'Brien hammered a two out solo home run in the seventh inning and the Omaha Storm Chasers held on to defeat the New Orleans Baby Cakes 5-3 in Monday matinee at Werner Park.

The Chasers jumped out with a pair of first inning runs to take the early lead off New Orleans starter Stephen Fife. Omaha added a run in the third inning and led 3-0.

New Orleans battled back sending eight batters to the plate in the fourth inning scoring a pair of runs on RBI hits from Brandon Barnes and Moises Sierra. The Cakes tied the contest in the fifth inning with a second RBI from Barnes.

In the seventh inning Raudel Lazo allowed a home run to O'Brien and the Chasers added an insurance run in the eighth to secure a 5-3 lead. Omaha (6-5) reliever Al Albuquerque earned the win pitching two scoreless innings. Lazo drops his second game of the season and there was no New Orleans (4-8) rally in the ninth with Malcom Culver earning the save.

The Cakes drop four of seven on their first road trip.

GAME NOTES: The Cakes have been outscored 11-0 in the first inning and 31-7 across the first three innings.
