Chico Outlaws News Release
CHICO, CALIF - The Chico Outlaws announced today that Greg Cadaret has been dismissed from his duties as the team's manager effective immediately.
"Greg worked very hard, but was unable to lead the team to reach it's potential," said Outlaws General Manager Curt Jacey. "We have too much talent on our roster to have a losing record. We needed a change in leadership in order for our organization to move forward in a positive direction and bring a winning team to our fans."
The Outlaws jumped out to an 8-2 first half record, which included a 7-game win streak, but have struggled since the strong start, posting a 12-23 record despite adding potent veteran hitters and bolstering the pitching staff with a major league experienced starter, while losing just one player to MLB teams. The Outlaws were hoping to gain momentum for a second half playoff push, but have disappointed under Cadaret thus far winning just twice in nine second half games and falling deep into the cellar.
Jacey will hand the reins over to Outlaws hitting coach Kory DeHaan to take over as interim manager for the duration of the 2009 season. The Outlaws hitters have excelled under DeHaan's tutelage this season with outfielders Blake Gailen and Truan Mehl among the league leaders in batting average. DeHaan, a former major leaguer with the Padres, has extensive coaching and baseball training experience working with professional and collegiate players since his playing career ended.
DeHaan will be at the helm tonight as the Outlaws take on the Yuma Scorpions at Nettleton Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm with gates opening at 6:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Outlaws downtown office located at 308 Salem Street in Chico, online at ChicoOutlaws.com, or by calling 530-345-3210.
