Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Adam Bysouth, an original member of the Calgary Roughnecks, has been placed on waivers to make room for the return of veteran Tyson Leies.
Leies missed the first four games of the season with a knee injury. He returned for Calgary's 15-6 victory over the Arizona Sting Saturday night.
"Cutting Adam was by far was by far the toughest cut I've ever had to make," said Brad Banister, the Roughnecks principal owner and general manager, on Monday. "I am very sad.
"Adam is the only one of our players with a 100 per cent attendance at practices and runs this year. He's never been a problem and he's always done what we've asked of him."
Banister added, "Unfortunately, it came down to a numbers game and Adam drew the short straw."
Bysouth, 25, a 6'1" defender from Kimberly, British Columbia, made his NLL debut with the Roughnecks in 2001-2002, the club's inaugural year. He played in all 16 games and finished second on the team with 73 loose balls. He found it tough to crack the line up last year and made only one appearance. He has not dressed this year.
Another Calgary defenceman, Craig Gelsvik, is working his way into shape for a return sometime this month.
Gelsvik, 6'3" and 220 lbs., was obtained in the off-season from Buffalo. Work commitments have kept him out of the line up so far.
"When Craig's ready to play I'll have another difficult decision to make," said Banister. "He's too good to leave on the sidelines so I'll have to cut another one of our guys to accommodate him. That won't be easy because the defence is getting better with each game."
The Roughnecks next game is in Anaheim on Sunday (February 8).
The game can be seen on The Score (Channel 30) at 6.30 p.m. Calgary time.
