
Buzzards deal for a defenseman

EL PASO, Texas â The El Paso Buzzards acquired defenseman Bob Rapoza from the Wichita Thunder for forward Derek Reynolds. The trade fills a big need for the Buzzards as the team looks to shore up their defensive unit.
"Rapoza will be a fantastic addition to our hockey club," said Buzzards' head coach Craig Coxe. "He's big, strong and can play on special teams. This trade gives our club a big boost. We're definitely putting the right pieces in place."
Rapoza, from Fall River, Mass., is a 6'2", 225 lb. defenseman with one goal and 12 assists in 20 games this season. Last season, Rapoza scored 12 goals and 48 assists and collected 84 penalty minutes for the Asheville Smoke in the United Hockey League. Rapoza and Buzzards' goaltender Blaine Russell were teammates in Asheville.
The El Paso Buzzards battle the Amarillo Gorillas at 7 p.m., Thursday at the El Paso County Coliseum. The team then travels to Odessa to square off against the Odessa Jackalopes Friday at 6 p.m. The Buzzards return home to the Nest Saturday to meet the Austin Ice Bats at 7 p.m. All times are Mountain Standard.
